The commuter town of Sevenoaks is located in West Kent. Located 21.5 miles southeast of London, it is at the southern end of one of the main commuter railways from the capital. The town of Sevenoaks was settled around or a little before the 13th century. At that time it was given the status of Market Town.
Of course like any market town, Sevenoaks is a place to find a great shopping experience. There are a wide variety of shops to choose from. You can get a lot of unique and interesting pieces from these ships and they are great for that must have special trinket to remind you of your trip.
Everyone likes an adventure and this town is no exception. The Knole House is a great place to get such an adventure. The Knole, as it is more commonly called, is an English country house that is surrounded by a 1000 acre deer park. This home is considered a calendar house since it has 365 rooms, 52 staircases, 14 entrances, and 7 courtyards. While you cannot view all the rooms there are many of the rooms that are open to the public. These rooms contain excellent collections of 17th century Stuart furniture. There are also many textile and tapestries for you to enjoy seeing. The home has been featured in the recent movie, The Other Boleyn Girl.
Thanks to the railway Sevenoaks is easily accessible to other towns. If you are looking for another interesting home to visit, then head outside of Swanley. Here you will find both the Lullingtone Castle and the Lullingstone Roman Villa. Both structures date back to the 2nd century. If that isn't enough then you should head to the Edenbridge Valley Museum. Not only can you see the Hever Castle from here you can also see many interesting exhibits on the history of the area. Should you get a chance you should venture over to the Hever castle this way you can say you've seen the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
If you are the outdoors type then you need to go over to the Riverhill House Gardens. These mainly private gardens are often opened to the public so that everyone can share in the beauty and joy of the horticulture. They certainly are wonderful to roam through and view. Take your time and check out all they have to offer.
