The largest town in the Scottish Highland, Fort William is also the second largest settlement in Scotland. Fort William was founded around the still present town of Inverlochy, It was named for William of Orange in 1680. Its close location to the mountains makes it an ideal stop for nature lovers and mountain bikers alike. This beautiful location has also made it a popular destination for film makers as well.
Fort William is located on two lochs, Loch Linnhe and Loc Eil. Loch Linnhe is a favorite stop of visitors in the summer. A perfect place for photographers as the summer sunsets are absolutely breath taking.

The first full week of May Fort William becomes home to the Scottish Six Day Motorcycle Trail. This popular festival is a huge draw for motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.
Movie enthusiasts probably enjoy visiting many of the same places that their favorite movie was filmed. Because of the beauty of the Fort Williams area there have been many movies filmed. Fans of movies such as Rob Roy, Braveheart and Highlander can see where many scenes of the movies were filmed. Harry Potter fans can also see where the opening scenes were filmed for the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
