The civil parish and market town of Bridgwater in Somerset England was founded around 800AD. As the leading industrial town in the county Bridgwater is also the administrative center for the Somerset County and is located on one of the major communication routes through southwest England.
Thanks to its large size Bridgwater is home to many things for visitors to do. The Admiral Bake Museum is a great place to learn about Bridgwater's marine past and other local historical moments. Located in the house commonly believed to be the birth place of Robert Blake, General at Sea, the museum is home to a collection of agricultural machinery, tools, and dairy equipment that was used back in the time period of Blake. There are also a collection of 19th century women's garments, and exhibits that detail events such as the Battle of Sedgemoor.
The Somerset Brick and Tile Museum is dedicated to the brick and tile industry of Somerset. Inside visitors can find exhibitions that include the last surviving pinnacle kiln and other tools used to make brick and tiles. Visitors can enjoy demonstrations on the tile making process and methods.
The Castle House was built in 1851. While much of the building is made from brick this building is one of the first buildings to use pre-cast concrete extensively though out the house. The building has many ornamental and structural pieces of concrete that demonstrate "an innovative interpretation of traditional masonry features in concrete".
Visitors to the Bridgwater area in September can enjoy the fair. This historic fair is has been held yearly since 1249. There are rides, livestock, side shows and lots of stalls. Bridgwater has also hosted a carnival each November since 1605. Dating to the gunpowder plot on the parliament building, the carnival celebrates the failure of Robert Parsons to execute his destruction.
Bridgwater is home to many different restaurants and cafes for those who are looking for a culinary delight and for those who are interested in doing a club crawl of sorts there is no shortage of Night clubs to venture into.
