The market town of Market Harborough is a modest sized down in the Harborough District of Leicestershire England. While the area was settled back during the time of the Domesday Book, the market town didn't spring up until the later part of the 1100s to the early part of the 1200s. Because of its rich history there are several buildings around the town that are of interest to tourist.

The Harborough Museum is a great place for tourists to start their journey. Here you can learn the history of Market Harborough. With exhibits of items such as the Symington Corsets, Table Creams, Pea Flour, and other items that were once manufactured in the area. Visitors can also see an 18th Century case clock that was manufactured here as well as a replicate of a shoe making workshop. There are also several archeological artifacts and antique toys on display as well. The Museum is also home to a variety of rotating temporary displays so even if you've visited the museum before go ahead and stop back by, you never know what you might find.

If you are interested in taking the kids somewhere fun then head over to the Foxton Canal Museum. Here you will get to learn all about the canals. You'll see artifacts that tell the story of the waterway, the locks and the lifts. You'll even get to learn about the people who called the area around the canal home. It's a great interactive museum so you don't have to worry about the kids being bored. There is a lot for them to see and explore.

While you're out touring the countryside, stop by the Kilbworth Harcourt Castle. This 12th Century motte and bailey fortress was built by the de Harcourt family. This castle was irregularly shaped with a flat topped mote that was encased by a wide ditch. The bailey has a wide entrance on the southwest side. While the castle is not open for visitors as of right now, there is a public footpath that passes by the castle so visitors can get a good view of the ruins.

There are also several churches around the Leicestershire countryside for you to view. Kings Norton has a nice Gothic style church for you to visit. And Little Bowden is home to a 12th Century church. And of course Market Harborough is home to a lovely church in the middle of town that has a 14th Century spire.
