The market town of Macclesfield is located within the unitary authority of Cheshire east. The town was in existence in 1183 listed at the time as Maclesfeld or Makeslesfeld. It had a weekly market and two annual fairs. Today there are a few items that might be of interest to visitors.

If you want to learn more about the silk industry that the town was famous for then head over to the Heritage Museum. Here you can learn about the development of the town's silk industry. With silk costumes and textiles on display you can learn a lot about how important silk was to the industry of Macclesfield. The Silk Museum that is located inside the Heritage Center is only one aspect. You can alsolearn about the history and heritage of the area.

There are also many different buildings to visit during your stay. Adlington Hall is one of these places. This Cheshire Manor was the home of the Leighs ever since 1315. Her you will see pieces such as the Bernard Smith organ that was once played by Handel. Once you've viewed the interesting artifacts inside be sure to head outside to the gardens. Here you will find beautiful roses, a wonderful water garden, the Temple for Diana and a maze that will keep you busy for a short time.

Another historic hall is the Capesthorne Hall. This is where the Bromely-Davenports lived ever since the late to mid 1000s. There are beautiful paintings, antique furniture, and Greek and marble vases to enjoy. The garden and park that belong to the estate span over 100 acres. There is no way that you will be able to take it all in, in one viewing.

If you are interested in the copper mining heritage of the Cheshire area then take a trip out to Alderley Edge. Here you can see a copper mine that has been open since prehistoric times. There are many walking paths that surround the area so you can take in the interesting and protected sandstone escarpment and the breathtaking scenery all at the same time.

If you are looking for a place to take the kids to explore and run wild then go the Macclesfield Riverside Park. Here the entire family can enjoy the woodlands, wildflowers and pond located here. It's a great place to take a picnic basket and some goodies and just sit and enjoy the day while the kids play.
