The small market town of Kingsbridge located in the South Hams district of Devon. The town itself was founded in or around the 10th century, the center of the town being built around a bridge that was located in the area and was built in or before the same time period. It wasn't until the 13th century that the town was allowed to hold a market. By 1238 the settlement had become more than just a settlement it had grown to the size of a borough.

Probably one of the biggest draws to the town of Kingsbridge is the market. Kingsbridge has been the main market town in Devon County since it received its charter from the Abbot in 1219. Because of its location between Plymouth and Dartmoor it is a great place to find many interesting items. Even today the market still thrives on selling items such as honey, fruit, vegetables, and thick cream. It's a great way to get some of the local produce that Kingsbridge has become famous for.

The market isn't the only place tourists can find some unique finds. There are many shops that sell a variety of items. From the name brand to the local curious you will be sure to find an interesting item or two to call your own. There's no reason to leave the town empty handed.

Even though the town is known for its market place it's not the only thing that draws people to Kingsbridge. The June Music festival is a huge draw for visitors. Visitors from all over come here enjoy a weekend of music. The variety of music offered from the bandstand is enough to please just about any music lover. There is blues, boogie, ska and many more types featured here. If you are a music lover then Music Festival held each June is a must.

While you are visiting the Kingsbridge area be sure to go out to the Estuary. Here you can see a wide variety of wildlife. Because Kingsbridge Estuary extends six miles south of the town to the seashore you can be sure to see not only land wildlife but sea wildlife as well. Be sure to check out the porpoises, dolphins and whales that call this area home. If you go at the right time you might even get to see a seal pup or two. If you are a bird lover then this is the place to head, there are egrets, sparrow hawks, peregrines, cirl buntings and many more variety. It's a bird lovers delight.
