The large village of Hook is located in the county of Hampshire. The town of hook is still fairly new, having not been established until the 18th century. At the time there were only a few scattered farms in the area, with the stagecoach route between London and Exeter, Hook started taking root. In the late 1800s the Hook railway station was built and the town exploded. Though the town itself is actually quiet small it is within driving distance of several fun spots for you and your family to enjoy.

If you are interested in some of the history of the area, then head over to the Willis museum. Willis Museum is named for the George Willis who was a local clockmaker and Mayor of Basingstoke. He saved the town's history. By touring the museum you will learn what it took to create the Basingstoke. You can see the fascinating collection including some of Willis clocks. It's a great way to learn about the history of the Hook area.

Another great attraction near Hook is the Vyne. This historic house is in located in an unspoiled setting. You can find many interesting treasures and features that go through the ages. This beautiful home covers five hundred years of history and even has links to King Henry VIII and Jane Austin. The animal lover will enjoy seeing the wide variety of wildlife and birds that call the Vine home.

If you are looking for a fun place to take the family for an afternoon, then you need to head on out to Wellington Country Park. This 350 acre park is between Basingstoke and Reading. Only six miles outside of the town of Hook it is a great place to go for an afternoon of fun. With a variety of play areas to choose from there is something for kids of all ages. There's a toddler area, sand pits, miniature railway, nature trail maze, and even a water play area. There is much more for the kids to enjoy as well. There are also four nature trails to take so that you and your family can see the variety of wildlife that inhabits this country side.

When you get back to Hook, be sure to take a meal at one of the many restaurants and cafes in the area. They have several spots that will please the foodie in you.
