The civil parish of Stroud, located in the county of Gloucestershire has many claims to fame. Not only is it the meeting point of the five valleys and considered an area of outstanding natural beauty it is also the place that many famous people have called home. Not only is the beauty and its fame a reason to visit the area it is also the center point for several other small market towns in the area. Visitors can stay in Stroud and venture to nearby towns and villages without spending all day in the car.

Stroud's biggest claim to fame is being one of the birthplaces of organic food. Stroud is home to Wooduiffs, the first fully-organic cafe in Britain. This cafe provides its foodies with a completely gluten-free menu and advertises itself as gluten-free on the go. It is still a popular eatery.

Visitors to the area during the first weekend of September can enjoy both a fringe festival and the Stroud Festival Fortnight. During these festivals you can enjoy lots of entertainment, food, and walking. The town is also known for its Vintage Fashion, Textile and Accessories Fair held in May.

Shoppers can enjoy picking from their favorite name brad retailers as well as some unique shops as well. Since Stroud is known for having a significant art community, there are a wide array of independent shops and cafes for the shopaholics. Buyers can not only enjoy these unique flavors of Stroud but thank them. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the local stores some of the big name retailers have placed outlet stores in the town to compete. You can find something perfectly unique and name brand at a discount all in one city.

For those interested in the history of this quaint town check out Stratford park. Not only can you enjoy the ambience of a park which used to be for a local weaver but there is a leisure center complete with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and is home to Museum in the Park. This museum details the history and culture of Stroud and its surrounding area.

If you find you want more to do Stroud is the center point of the valley. It is close to many different market towns and villages that are just a short car ride away. Check with the local tourist information center to get an idea of the best place to explore.
