The market town of Kettering is located in Northamptonshire England. Only about 81 miles outside of London, Kettering is located on the River Ise. The town was believed to be obscure when it was first settled. By the tenth century, however, the town was beginning to grow more rapidly. It's been discovered, though, that the area has been populated since at least the first century when the Romans were in control of the area. As the area began to grow and expand the major economy booster for the area was the boot and shoe industry. The railway made the industry grow even more and expand into other areas of clothing and even engineering.
There are many interesting sites to see during your stay. One of these sites is the Boughton House. This was the originally the home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensbury. The buildings were originally modest medieval buildings that were purchased by the Montagu family in 1528. These buildings were then transformed into the sprawling home it is today. During the summer months this attraction welcomes visitors to view not only the large manor but its walled gardens as well. Once you've visited the stunning garden with its wildlife be sure to tour the interior of the manor. Here you will see a collection of paintings, tapestries, needlework, porcelain, silver, arms, and carpets that are unmatched anywhere in the county.
If you are interested in Kettering's rich history then visit the Manor House Museum. This attractions features an array of constantly changing exhibits that guarantees you will never see the same thing twice. See artifacts in the areas of fine arts, photography and crafts. Often you can find many of these displays for sale and can take a piece of art home with you. You will also find many "hand-on" exhibits that explain the area's history and culture.
Another popular attraction is Wicksteed Park. This 147 acre park is one of the few places that offer both country and theme park all in one stop. There are three different "ride" areas that have a total of 35 rides. You can enjoy one of the largest free playgrounds while you are here at the Fairgroud. In the Arena area you can enjoy racing cars, log flume, paratrooper and a roller coaster. There are also a variety of water based attractions on the Lakeside. If you are interested in camping then this is not a problem. There are caravan and camping facilities so that you can stay overnight during your visit. If you have pets bring them, they will be allowed in if on a leash, but be aware of your pets condition if an animal is found in distress the RSPCA will be called. If you are interested in unlimited rides you might want to purchase a wristband instead of just tickets. The wristband is a great way to get as many rides in as you can without the added expense of buying tickets, which can add up if you want to ride every ride.
