The Waltons is No 1 on Trip Advisor for Dorking

Dorking sits in the heart of Surrey surrounded by beautiful, varied and unspoilt countryside.

Midway between London and the south coast it is close to the M25 and within easy reach of both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

Situated on the Pilgrim's Way, Dorking was a popular stopping place for pilgrims on their way to Canterbury.

The Waltons is also a favourite overnight stop for those walking both The North Downs Way and The Green Sand Way.

It now has the reputation of having the most antique shops per head of population of any town in England.

The Waltons is an ideal base from which to explore this richly historic town and it's surrounding countryside.

The house was built in 1830 and retains all of its original features.

It is a listed building and situated in a conservation area in the heart of the town.

We have a variety of accommodations to offer, all with very flexible usage.

On the first floor we have a double and a twin room, both of these rooms are large and can accommodate extra beds. Indeed the twin room has a sofa bed ideal for a third adult or child. Both rooms have colour remote TV, hospitality trays and comfortable seating. All rooms are en-suite. It is possible, with early booking, to secure the entire first floor giving in effect a private "suite". All our rooms are centrally heated and there is a constant supply of hot water.

In addition to these two rooms we also have a family room which boasts superior facilities. This room occupies the entire lower ground floor and has a very large bedroom (sleeping up to five), a fully fitted kitchen, large family bathroom, separate shower and a large sitting room. There is a TV/Video and large selection of videos available to view. We have set aside a small terrace immediately outside the French windows for the family rooms private use.

The WaltonsBreakfast

Breakfast is served during the week between 7.30 - 9.00 am.

There is always an option to help yourself to an earlier or later Continental breakfast but for a full English breakfast we prefer to stay within the times stated.

For the weekend we serve breakfast between 8.30 - 10.00 am

As you will note from our tariff, there is a reduction for a Continental breakfast.

Bedrooms

You should find a fully stocked hospitality tray, the only thing missing being fresh milk. This can be found in the dining room fridge and is available at any time of day or night. If you would like to help yourself to cold water or fruit juice you are also welcome (this is complementary).

There are hair dryers and also an iron and ironing board available, if you cannot find one in the cupboard or chest of drawers then please ask one of the family to locate one.

Should you wish to work in the evening and find the bedroom is not providing either enough space or light, please ask if you can use the dining room table, it is almost always free at that time.

Keys

Each guest will have a key to the front door, there are no keys to individual bedrooms as this is a family home and we feel our possessions are trusted as are indeed yours. If you have something of value you prefer to not leave in the room we can arrange for it to be safely stored. When you leave please remind me you have a key, I sometimes forget to retrieve them.

Payment

We do not accept credit or debit cards but payment can be made with cash/cheque/travellers cheque or bank transfer. Invoices or receipts are not a problem if required. All cheques should be made payable to Mrs M L Walton and NOT The Waltons.

Booking

Booking can be done either by email, phone or calling to the door. We require a deposit of the first night's accommodation; a cheque made payable to Mrs M L Walton (and NOT The Waltons).

Cancellations

Our policy for cancellations is to make every effort to rebook the room, if we are unable to do so there is a charge: this would be the minimum price for the room i.e. single occupancy at £75.00 for each night booked and not taken up. As we are a small guesthouse and do not "overbook" it has a serious impact on us if rooms are left empty at the last minute.Having said that we normally find a room can be rebooked within a day or two.

Smoking

This is a strictly no smoking house in either bedrooms or the dining room. There is a covered area outside on the terrace for guests who might wish to smoke.

Check in and check out

There are no strict times for check in or check out. We do ask for a rough time of arrival to make sure someone is here to welcome you. I would, however, point out that if we have early "check in" for the next guest you would appreciate we need to service the room and ask that you leave by 11.00 am at the latest. If there is no new guest arriving early we're more than happy to arrange for a later check out. It is also an option for us to store guest's luggage if they would like to enjoyDorking and the surrounding countryside on their last day; it is not a good idea to leave belongings in the car.

Parking

We have a drive for parking, this can accommodate around 4 or 5 cars. It is sadly not a very convenient drive as it is both narrow and steep. Some guests prefer to park on the road, which is perfectly legal. There are no parking restrictions day or night but we do ask guests to park with consideration for our neighbours, i.e. not blocking drives or making their exit awkward to manoeuvre.

Directions

Once you are in the High Street proceed towards South Street.

Turn left into Rose Hill, 30 metres after the "Cricketers" pub.
