Standing in its own beautiful grounds and gardens, Sneaton Castle is surrounded on all sides by commanding views of Whitby, its ancient Abbey Ruins, the sea and the spectacular moors.
The Centre provides an excellent base for a whole variety of day and residential events including conferences, seminars, holiday's retreats, church weekends, music/arts and drama workshops, day outings, school and college trips, special receptions and celebrations.
And, of course, a warm invitation also extends to individuals or families who simply want 'to get away' and stay bed and breakfast - the Centre is an ideal place for rest, renewal and refreshment.
Owing to its delightful location close to the centre of Whitby, Sneaton Castle Centre offers the visitor easy access to one of England's most historical and beautiful regions combining 'coast, moorland, hidden market towns and charming villages, untouched by the march of time. The area offers limitless opportunities for leisurely exploration for the holidaymaker and is excellent for those whose interest and studies are in geology, geography, history, botany or marine biology.
We can accommodate up to 120 guests in both en-suite and standard accommodation, which comprises single, twin and family rooms. All en-suite rooms are equipped with a hospitality tray and toilet with either a bath or a shower. Two rooms are especially adapted for the less able bodied. Standard rooms are well serviced with bathrooms, showers and toilets and all accommodation has access to comfortable television lounges.
Integral to Sneaton Castle Centre are St Francis House and the Margaret Cope Centre. All rooms at St Francis House, which has been awarded a Four star rating by Quality in Tourism, are en-suite with eleven twin-bedded rooms providing accommodation for a total of 30 guests. A comfortable lounge and a pleasant committee room complete the 'all you need' provision for your special symposium or 'away break'.
Providing a superior conference venue, the Margaret Cope Centre, built to commemorate the centenary of the Foundress of the Holy Paraclete, also has a studio with outstanding acoustics making it perfect for musical gatherings. Booked in conjunction with St Francis House, or by larger parties staying in the main building, the Margaret Cope Centre offers meeting space for 60 delegates with additional small rooms.
Our dining room is finely decorated and furnished and local photographer William Sutcliffe's famous 19th century images of Whitby adorn the walls. The food is homemade and delicious whilst the premises are fully licensed with a comfortable, recently refurbished bar lounge.
Also on site is a popular small shop selling an interesting selection of fine quality books as well as a cards and gifts for every occasion.
