The room has calm and restful atmosphere retaining its original Edwardian fireplace. |

The breakfast room leads off from the front room and is ideal place to enjoy our hearty organic breakfasts that we guarantee will set you up for the coming day. The room is relaxing with a newly fitted wood burning stove in case the weather should turn cold. Pegasus (below) our trusty family rocking horse keeps a friendly eye on us all. His standards are extremely high. |
The Meeting Place:
A family history
The cottage was built around the turn of the 20th century by Mr. Bryant, a local craftsman, for his family. They were very religious and followed a way of worship that was more akin to the Plymouth Brethren administering to themselves without the need of a vicar and preaching as the spirit moved them. The house was used as a temporary chapel when the mission tent was damaged in a storm. The present owners were lucky in making contact with one of the surviving members of the family who has sadly since died; she is the little girl resting on her mother's knee in the picture below; her name was Rhoda. We were given many insights into the history of the house and the way the family lived. They were a happy and cheerful family who grew up with strong moral and religious principle and all seem to do well in the world. We feel very privileged to have had this connection with the family.
If you are interested in a more detailed history of this family and what life was like in the earlier part of the 20th century then you can read attached to this website a semi-biographical account of life in the Bryant family by Rhoda who against her true inclination became a teacher. When we informed Rhoda we were turning the house into a B&B she replied "Can't you hear I am dancing with joy".
