Curzon Lodge

Curzon LodgeCurzon Lodge is a most charming and interesting early 17th Century Grade II listed house of immense character, standing in a truly magnificent location overlooking York's famous Knavesmire Racecourse, and set in its own attractive grounds on the grand Royal Route into the city.

Formerly owned by the Terry's, one of York's world renowned "Chocolate Families", Wendy and Richard Wood now welcome guests to share their home and its unique atmosphere in ten imaginatively furnished and comfortable rooms.Curzon Lodge

BedroomAll have private bathroom and toilet, wash basin, bath and/or shower, and home comforts including colour television, central heating, clock radio, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, and easy chairs.

Most bedrooms in the Lodge are furnished with antique pine, some rooms boasting four poster or Victorian brass bedsteads.Curzon Lodge interior

In order to get the day off to a perfect start, all guests enjoy a delicious English breakfast, cooked to order and served in the Lodge's homely 'farmhouse kitchen' dining room, having exposed beams with brasses, and original quarry tile floor with rugs.

A cosy and sunny room, it overlooks mature conifers to the secluded walled garden, with extensive open views over the Knavesmire, and adjacent National Trust property.Curzon Lodge has the benefit of a very pretty drawing room comfortably furnished with antiques, where residents may relax or just sample the reading.

Guests find the large enclosed car park not only very convenient, but of some necessity in York - the medieval streets of the historic northern capital more suited for leisurely strolls than motor vehicles!

Curzon Lodge is superbly located, being easy to reach from either the A64 by-pass or the ring-road, standing beside the Racecourse, a short distance from Micklegate Bar, which marks the grandest entry to the medieval city and its encircling walls.

The Lodge is also convieniently close to the station and all of York's attractions both ancient and modern.

York, with its famous Minster and narrow cobbled streets, has a timeless atmosphere reflecting a colourful pageant of ages gone by, which will enchant the unsuspecting visitor.

Within an easy afternoon's drive lie the scenic beauties not only of "Herriot Country", the Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors National Parks, but also a score of historic houses and country parks such as Castle Howard, Harewood House and Fountains Abbey.

Stable Cottages
Stable Cottages are the extremely attractive wisteria clad former old coach house and stables, having been renovated and restored with great care and taste, to create five delightful en-suite bedrooms.

Wherever possible, the original oak beams and other interesting features have been retained, and now provide "Country Cottage" accommodation of supreme comfort and charm within the original mellow brick building.

Stable CottagesConscious of its architectural heritage and original use, a subtle blend of old and new has been achieved, being ideal for those who prefer the extra privacy and independence.

Maintaining the old and gracious traditions of personal service and true Yorkshire hospitality, it is our sincere aim that this is reflected in the warm spirit in which we today welcome our guests.
