The beautiful country town of Enniskillen is locate in a county in Northern Ireland called Fermanagh. Enniskillen rests on an island that is located in the middle of the Lower and Upper Lough Erne. It's known to be one of the most tranquil towns in Ireland. The town is dominated by the massive Enniskillen Castle that has a history that dates back to the15th Century. Although the major attraction of Enniskillen is its amazing countryside. It is surrounded by magnificent lakes to the north and south that support many water sports. Located in its hills of limestone is the Marble Arch Caves that is only match its beauty by the Burren caves in County Clare.

The 2001 Census revealed that Enniskillen had more than 14,000 residents living in the town itself, making it the county of Fermanagh's largest town. Enniskillen is the main shopping area of the county with it many retail shops. It is also the home of the Fermanagh District councils local government seat. The local government seat originally was granted to the Maquire family. The Maquire family were the first inhabitants of Enniskillen Castle. It was taken from them in 1607 by the English. The English took the castle as part of their plan to make the town of Ulster to be under English control. Later, as the English acquired more and more areas, the Plantation of Ulser was given over to the English planters that had been loyal to the royal thrown.

William Cole supplanted the Maquires, according to history. Cole originated from Devon and was picked by James I to build up the English town. It was only when King James the II was finally taken out of power by William the III that the completion of the siege of the town was finally a success. After that time Enniskillen was built up to be a market town. While the town remained peaceful for most of its history, this peace was shattered in 1987. That year Enniskillen became well known to the world because of the Remembrance Day Bombing that ended the lives of eleven people.
