This has since become the world's oldest classic horse race and is still being done today. During WWI race horses were utilized in the military and from 1915 to 1918 substitute races took place in Newmarket.
In 2007 the race course underwent major renovations. It received a new exhibition center, blood stock sales, stable and grandstand.
