Colwyn Bar is a town as well as a sea side resort in the Welsh county of Conwy located on the coast of North Wales. Before April 1974 Colwyn Bay's reorganization of their local government, the town was a municipal borough. In 1974, however, the town was split up into five parishes called communities. All five communities had a total population of 28,992 in 2001 according to the Census. Also according to the Census, 20% of the town population speaks Welsh fluently. The highest percentage of the population that can being between the ages of 10 to 14 years, in which 38% can speak the language.

This can be attributed to the presence of Ysgol Bod-Alaw, a Welsh medium primary school. There are also three secondary schools in Colwyn Bay, which include two state and one private. In Eirias Park is Eirias High School and in Old Colwyn is Ysgol Bryn Elian. While Ysgol Bryn Elian just serves Old Colwyn, Eririas High School serves Colwyn Bay. Penrhyn Bar and Rhos on Sea. The private school, Rydal Penrhos, has several locations in town.

Some of the town's tourist attractions include Eirias Park, Victoria Pier, and Welsh Mountain Zoo. The town is located in between the Pwllycrochan Woods that tower above on the hillside and the sea. There is a commercial and business center that includes rail links and is within close proximity to the many activities that the countryside that surrounds the town has to offer. The National Eisteddfod was hosted in Calwyn Bay in the years 1910, 1947 and 1995. Rhos-on-Sea, the western side of the town, has many historical locations that are associated with the 13th Century general and the councilor to Llywelyn the great, St. Trillo and Ednyfed Pychan.
