Bishop Auckland is a well known market town of County Durham in the North Eastern part of England. The town is blessed with the proximity of Darlington and Durham, two important towns of the county. With a population of just under 25,000 Bishop Auckland is full of lively activities and portrays the authentic English way of life.

The historical connection with the Bishop of Durham is quite strong and it is still reflected in the name of the town. Couple of centuries back Bishop Auckland used to be a very important coal mining hub but now days the primary source of revenue for the town is manufacturing of various genres.

Bishop Auckland buildings are well acknowledged by the experts and tourists often visit the town to have deep appreciation for the architectural achievements. Auckland Castle is not only a spectacular historical building but the adjacent 800 acres of parkland makes it one of the brightest attractions of the town. The castle is still known as the official residence and it retained this title for over eight centuries. Some of the very finest paintings are kept inside the castle which makes it a must-visit place for the art lovers. The Castle remains open for the tourist from Easter Monday to the last Sunday in September.

If you have craving for Roman buildings then Binchester Roman Fort has all the elements to ensure a memorable trip. Roman history is preserved with utmost care with a major focus of the roman military equipments.
