Lying on the banks of the River Deben and located within the Eastern extremities of England, Woodbridge is a small village with approximately 8,000 souls in it although the village itself is often regarded as being far larger than it actually is due to the rather high number of villages that are dotted all around it.

The village of Woodbridge has traditionally enjoyed a very strong connection and affiliation with the nautical industry, due to the fact that it was used as a centre of industry for various components of sailing, including sail production, rope making and even boat building and so the village always enjoyed a very strong affiliation with the British Navy. During the Middle Ages when the village was such an important production base, it enjoyed a remarkable degree of prosperity and wealth that was hard to match elsewhere in the country.

The town has had a number of famous inhabitants as well, including such luminaries as Thomas Clarkson who played an integral role in the abolition of the slave trade. It is somewhat fitting that Clarkson should hail from the town of Woodbridge, for the overwhelming majority of sea vessels that were created in the village were subsequently relied upon in order to transport the slaves from the African continent for transportation to Britain. It would be fair to say then slavery, or at least, the country of Britain's involvement in the ghastly process both began and died with the town of Woodbridge.

Woodbridge also has another strong affiliation with a rather different kind of ship....those of an extraterrestrial variety. The nearby Rendlesham Forest was reported to be the site of a UFO vessel landing, which landing at a nearby Army base. Speculation remains high as to what the precise nature and circumstances of the incident are and the issue has became so thoroughly embellished over the years that any sort of attempt to reach a genuine conclusion will be a futile exercise.

Every year, ufologists go on pilgrimage to the Rendlesham Forest, in order to be closer to the place where it all began.
