Located within the metropolitan borough of the city of Leeds is the civil parish and market town of Wetherby. Wetherby is historically part of the Wapentake of Skyrack and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Wedrebi. The town has been here for years but didn't become a popular spot until the 12th and 13th centuries. During this time the Knights Templar were granted properties in Yorkshire. They set up camp here and were even granted a Royal Charter by Henry III allowing them to hold a market in Wetherby. It also allowed for a yearly fair. Because of its history and location there is lots to see and do.

One of the first things you'll notice about the town of Wetherby is the surroundings. The town is located on the Wharfe River giving it a wonderful serenity to it. If you take a tour on the Historical Trail you will be able to learn more about the town and its past. Be sure to grab a leaflet from any of the shops and the library that is located along the trail. While you are on the trail you can see many wonderful historical buildings. These are noted with blue plaques and there should be information on each. It's a nice easy way to get accustomed to the city and learn its history at the same time.

If you are interested in shopping then look no further. There are many good shops in the town that you can browse through. Wanting something unique? Even better, most of the shops located in this quaint town are small locally owned shops not large chain stores. You will be sure to find something that is completely unique to your trip.

And if you should feel famished during your shopping extravaganza don't worry. While there are many small shops to choose from there are also many restaurants. If you want a full meal feel free to have one, if you want just a light snack or a quick pick me up then stop in one of the many tea/coffee shops located throughout town. You can find just about anything to suite your needs.

Be sure to check out the Farmers Market during your stay. Held on the second Sunday of each month you can find many tasty treats here. Every foodie will tell you that local and fresh is best. Here you can choose from meat, fish, veggies as well as pre-prepared items. With 30 stalls to choose from you can satisfy your inner foodie and curiosity all at the same time.
