Plockton Hotels and Guest Houses

On the shores of Loch Carron is the quaint village of Plockton. The small town started out life as a planned community that was based around the fishing industry. While it has remained a small town, with a resident population of less than 400 people, the town has grown to something of a tourist resort. Thanks to having been used as location for the popular TV Series Hamish Macbeth and for scenes in the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries and The Wicker Man movie.

Because of its location along the coast, Plockton enjoys mild weather. Visitors to the area actually get to see palm trees growing here. It's a welcome sight to many who worry about the Highland's cooler weather.

For those who are interested in the great outdoors then wander over to Back Brae. This area runs parallel to the main street of the village and offers visitors picturesque views of Plockton Bay. You can also see wonderful views of the village, Applecross Hills, and Loch Carron. For more wonderful views all you have to do is take a right before you reach the Inn and keep going right. From here you go to Frithaird and go left up Frithaird hill. From here you can see more spectacular views of the bays.

If you are interested in swimming you should go to Buckie's Pier. The pier is located in front of the Plockton Hotel and is a great place for kids to go swimming. If you have little one's that might be the best place to take them. The main pier at RHU is also a great place to go for a dip.

If you are more interested in having the sandy beaches along with your water then take the short walk or drive over to Dubhaird. This sandy cove has a gentle slope to it so it's great for children. You can sun yourself while the kids build their sand castles and splash in the beautiful water.

While swimming is lots of fun it's not the only thing to do. Eilean Donan castle is nearby and can make for a great trip. This castle stands on a islet at the meeting place of three lochs. Just observing it from a distance is wonderful with the lochs surrounding it and the Kintail ranges in the background it really is a thing of post cards. Once inside you can explore almost the entire castle either on your own or with a guide. It really is worth the small trip out of town.
