The Scottish town of Orkney is a collection of islands and does offer some unmatched experiences in the whole of Scotland. Only 20 islands are suitable for the population and the major part of Orkney, approximately 50 islands, are not suitable for living on the long term basis. Mainland is the name of the largest piece of these islands and for this reason the most populated one too.
The town has a very stable climate as contrary to its northerly location which ensures the continuous arrival of visitors. The average temperature for the year is just below 10 Celsius and in winter it drops to 4.
One of the attractions of the town includes the Tomb of the Eagles. Almost 5000 year old archaeological sites are waiting for the incoming visitors to explore the marvels of the Stone Age. These sites were discovered almost half a century ago when the archaeologist Ronnie discovered them accidently and from then onwards his family is responsible for all the arrangements of the Tomb of the Eagles. Visitors who have even the slightest interest in archeology should definitely visit this place as it offers opportunities to come in direct contact with the artifacts of ancient centuries.
Orkney Marine Life aquarium hosts hundreds of marine species that you will not easily find in Scotland. Special sections are maintained for children of all ages so that they can truly get close with the amazing species of starfish and other marine life within the walls of one building.
