Marlborough in Wiltshire England has a long history that dates back to well before written record. Even though the first written record of the town doesn't show up until after the publication of the Domesday Book in 1087, Marlborough's history dates back to at least the Iron Age.

Marlborough is a small town, much of it's beauty is environmentally protected so visitors can continue to enjoy it no matter what. Even though the town has a steep history dating back as it does to the Iron Age, it has a very modern twist on itself. With many different cafes and eateries it is a foodie's delight.

Twice a week visitors and the 9,000 odd residents can enjoy the market. Here you can buy local goods and produce. Once you've shopped at the market you can enjoy strolling High Street, one of the widest in Europe and site of the market. Here you will see a wide array of old buildings that are home to many different types of shops all of the best quality.

If it is history you are interested in the head over to the Merchant's House. This fine 17th century home was built for the middle-class. Fully restored it is now home to period features, artifacts and paintings. Open to visitors daily it is a favorite spot for those touring the town to learn a little about the history.

Thanks to the modern cosmopolitan atmosphere of the town July visitors to the town can enjoy the International Jazz Festival. Here you can hear many great musicians while enjoying the overall atmosphere of the town. If you are in the area during July it is a must attend function.

Not to leave the foodies out, October is the month to eat. The Food Festival takes place during this time and you can enjoy the succulent flavors of the Wiltshire area.

If you are interested in golf there are two courses in town. While the Marlborough Golf Club is a private club the Ogbourne Downs club is open to visitors. Either one of these courses will surely give you the challenge that you are looking for.

Looking for a place to take the family to swim or play then head over to the Marlborough Leisure center. With a swimming pool, play areas for the kids, fitness suite, and sports hall you can work out and stay in shape while the kids have fun climbing and playing in the soft play area.
