In the area of New Forest in Hampshire England is the village of Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst is the largest of all the villages in the New Forest area. It is a popular destination for fans of the book Alice's Adventure in Wonderland. The inspiration for Lewis Carroll's book, Alice Liddell (later Alice Hargreaves) called Lyndhurst home. Her grave is located in the graveyard of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels.

One of the most popular stops is the church where Alice is buried. The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a beautiful building. It is built on the highest point in the village and is constructed out of many different colored bricks. Built in the last 1800s, the church contains stained-glass manufactured by Charles Kempe, William Morris, and Edward Burne-Jones among others. It is also home to important frescos by Lord Leighton.

Lyndhurst is a great place to visit during the summer months. Thanks to its setting in the New Forest there are many things to do and see especially during the late spring through to the late summer months. The New Forest Reptile Center is a fun place to learn about the cold blooded creatures of England. This outdoor attraction allows you to see the snakes, frogs, toads, and lizards in their natural habitats, but don't worry they can't hurt you they are penned in so you can see them but not touch them. The trail which is self-guided is around a mile and a half long and is easy-going so there will be no strain to you or your family.

The New Forest Contemporary Art is another great place to head. Located in the High Street, this attraction gives visitors the opportunity to see local art. This is located in a spacious former bank that gives the Contemporary Art center a unique and interesting feel. If you are interested in any of the paintings they have hanging in the gallery, just let them know . . . all the art in the gallery is for sale.

If you are looking for something for the entire family, then head over to the New Forest Museum. Here you will learn about the history and heritage of the New Forest area. You can enjoy hands-on activities with coloring, quizzes, and interactive displays. You will also get to see and experience many of the plants and animals that are found naturally in this area.

For a unique take on Norman architecture the head to the Minstead Church, better known as the All Saint Church. Built during the Norman times this church has been under constant renovation. Since 1272 each of the subsequent generations has seen fit to alter the building in some form so that their needs are met. The interior has a low ceiling and little windows. Add to this a few fireplaces and parlour style pews and you have more of a cottage felling than a church feeling. Its ancient nature, though, is not what draws most visitors, the biggest reason people head to All Saints is to scope out the tomb of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
