The market town of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire England was chartered in 1205 by King John. The current seat of the Huntingdonshire District Council, it is probably most well known for being the birth place of Oliver Cromwell. Huntingdon is located on the bank of the River Great Ouse and is comprised of the village of Harford, Oxmoor, Stukeley Meadows and Hinchingbrooke.

Nature lovers visiting Huntingdon will enjoy the Hinchingbrooke Country Park. Here you can explore the 170 acres of meadows, woodlands, lakes and grasslands. You take in the picturesque scenery and possibly see some of the indigenous wildlife. Enjoy a picnic or just simply bring the dogs out to explore this vast area, you will find it quiet and relaxing.

In 969 the original Houghton Mill was built. Since then several different mills have occupied this spot. Today it is still in use to mill flour and is a popular tourist stop. Visitors can see this historic mill and its history. Those that enjoy camping can camp here at the nearby campsites.

Huntingdon is the birthplace of many famous people but it is best known for being the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell. Those who are interested in English history should be sure to visit the Cromwell Museum. Here you can follow his history through his birth to his rise to be a "king in all but name" as head of state. Visitors can learn a lot about one of the most controversial figures of British History. Admission to the Cromwell Museum is free and visitors should know they are closed on Mondays.

Visitors that enjoy a good ghost story will be interested in the Hinchingbrooke House. Built in the 11th century and originally used as a nunnery it is now a popular stop for those looking for a good ghost story. The Hinchingbrooke House was handed over to the Thomas Cromwell for overseeing the dissolution of the monasteries. The former convent is said to be haunted. The Nun's bridge located over the Alconbury Brook is the site of many ghost sightings. As the story goes there was once a nun at the convent who had a monk as a lover. Their relationship caused them to be murdered. On the bridge many have said to see the ghost of a nun and a second ghost of what appeared to be a nurse. As recent as 2005 builders refused to work or renovations at night after several of them saw the ghost of the monk. Students and teachers that attended a 6th form there have reported the sounds of children. It makes for a good ghost story and popular visitors stop for those interested in all things haunted.

Huntingdon is a place of nature and history for those to enjoy.
