The English town of Chard enjoys the title of being the highest town in the Somerset County with an approximate elevation of 397 feet. A recent census shows that Chard has a population of well above 12 thousand which makes it fairly largely populated as compared to the neighbouring towns.

Godworthy House is a well known museum of the town where Chard's history is preserved in the form of historical artifacts. A visit to the museum is a must for the visitors to get some really interesting information about the town's history.

Forde Abbey and Gardens were founded in the mid 12th century and the Abbey remained one of the finest monasteries in the English land for many centuries. The adjacent house is now owned by the Roper family and they are the custodians of the Abbey as well. The gardens which were primarily kept in accordance with the monks needs in the earlier centuries are now open for visitors. The magical environment of the gardens and the close proximity of the Abbey create a spellbound experience for the tourists. A fountain is created in the gardens which can attain a height of 160 feet and is the tallest fountain (powered) in the English territory.

The Church of St Mary was built in the eleventh century and still stands as a testimony of the architectural excellence. Eager visitors take photographs of the splendid building and local guides elaborate each and every part of the church. Government has taken special steps to preserve the grandeur of the building
