Brixham is a fishing town is that is built on the outcrops of limestone of a crescent that make Torbay. The town was constructed around a bustling harbor and has less commercialization that other parts of Torbay and the English Riviera. The town has narrow streets that flow through a dazzling array of houses that are color washed and lead to the harbor. There you can find many shops that sell refreshments and tourist collectibles plus fresh fish caught locally.

Brixham boasted one of the UK's largest fishing fleets in 1851 but has since declined to a fraction of its former glory. Brixam's seafaring's many rises and falls are featured in the displays an Brixham Museum. There you will find many historic photos of local ship wrecks and rescues at see as well as a huge collection of equipment that has been used to save lives during the towns history. There is a replica of the Sir France Drake's ship from the 16th Century, The Golden Hind that emphasis Brigham's connection to the sea.

Drake once visited Drixam in 1588 using the Capitana, a galleon he had captured. On the south end of the inner harbor in Brixham is a statue of Prince William of Orange who landed there in 1688 to take back the British throne from James II. Just a small walk towards the Berry Head promontory just past the harbor are several great beaches. Though most are small and full of pebbles, the St. Mary's Bay, has a beach that is large and sandy as well a connected swimming pool, facilities and shops of its own.

To Brixham's east is Berry Head County Park. The park has magnificent opportunities for cliff top walks and stunning view. There are a wide range of seabird colonies. The presence of the limestone topology that is present in the park makes it the perfect place for several flora species that are rare. The park was once the home of a promotry fort from the iron age that came complete with earthwork embankments for defense which was typical for a fort of its time during that era.
