Located on the Penniene Moors is the English town of Blackburn Lancanshire. At one point and time, the town was a mill town, then it moved to textiles. The city was founded prior to 1086, its name of sorts was found in the Domesday Book. The city of Blackburn is also a known site where the Roman military road crossed the Blakewater River. It is home to many different types of landmarks for visitors to enjoy.

The Blackburn Cathedrals was consecrated in 1826. Originally known as Saint Mary's parish Church, the church was believed to have been founded several hundred years prior to its consecrated. By 1926 the Diocese of Blackburn was created and it gave the church cathedral status. The cathedral was enlarged during the 1930s to 1960 starting with the nave that was already present. The cathedral is home to six 1700 era bells. These bells, plus the cathedral architecture itself make for an interesting stop on your tour of Blackburn.

The Statue of Queen Victoria is located right next to the cathedral. The statue was unveiled in 1905 by the Queen's fourth daughter Louise. Sculpted by the Australian sculptor Sir Bertram McKennal, the statue was made out of Sicilian marble and stands 11 feet high and weighs over 9 tons. It is a sight to see and appreciate the artistic architecture.

Ewood Park is another popular stop. This park is the stadium of the Blackburn football club. The original Ewood Park was built in 1890 and then a newly redeveloped Ewood Park was opened in November of 1995. Visitors can enjoy seeing many types of games here.

A technical school would probably not sound like a place to head when you are on vacation. The Technical school n Blackburn however is a popular stop. Why? Well, because of its architecture. This building's construction started in May of 1888 and wasn't finished until 1894. The building is made mostly of red brick and yellow terracotta but it is ornately decorated with gables and angled turrets. The round arched entrance has a balcony above and the whole school is has a slate roof. This grade II building is often a spot for fans of 19th Century architecture.

Blackburn is also home to several parks for you and your family to enjoy. The Queen's Park was opened in 1887. Here you can enjoy a lake that is over 3 acres in length, a children's paddling pool, two tennis courts, and four bowling greens. Here you can spend the day playing and watching your children play in the water. You can enjoy watching the native wildlife in the pond.

Witton Country Park is a 480 acre that was purchased by the town in 1946. This is the largest of the parks found in Blackburn and has five tennis course and three bowling greens. It is also home to a large children's playground. It is a great place to take the kids and enjoy the day out.
