Located in the Wyre Forest district of Worcestershire is the civil parish and town of Bewdley. This historic town was settled around the time of the Domesday Book although it wasn't called Bewdley. At the time the settlement was Wribbenhall which is now a part of this quiet town. The town became known as Beau lieu in the 1300s. The name was then changed to Bewdley by the time the town received its borough status and weekly market some 100 years later in 1472. Today it has many popular stops for visitors to enjoy.

Because of its idyllic location in the Wyre Forest many outdoorsmen (and women) enjoy visiting this area. There are many cycle paths for cyclists to enjoy as well as many footpaths for nature lovers to wander. You can enjoy wandering the unspoiled forest and see many interesting wildlife species as well as a wonderful variety of birds.

If you are interested in learning the history of the town then make a stop at the Bewdley Museum. Here you will be able to explore the town's history. Along with the historical exhibits you will also get to see a variety of local crafts. There is everything from basket making to coopering. You can also see a variety of exhibits on the local agriculture and tanning industries.

While Bewdley was an active market town unfortunately it no longer has the weekly market at this time. Once held on Saturdays now the markets are specialized and held periodically throughout the year. There is hope of reviving the weekly market but as of now the push has not been successful. If you are in the area during one of their specialized markets be sure you attend, you can find many interesting and local items here.

Also of interest to many visitors is the West Midland Safari Park. This four mile park is equipped so you and your family can simply drive through it. You will see hundreds of exotic animals from all over the world. Many of these animals are on the endangered species list. Visitors can see Elephants, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers (including the rare and beautiful white tiger), Camels, Gnu, Emu and many more. It is a wonderful site to see. There are also live shows throughout the day including a Sea Lion Show and the twice daily Hippo feeding.

For the railroad enthusiast you have a wonderful opportunity here in Bewdley. Here you will find the headquarters of the Severn Valley Railway. This heritage railway runs sixteen miles between Kidderminster and Bidgnorth. Not only can you enjoy taking the train along its sixteen mile journey you can also see an extensive collection of steam locomotives and coaches. Many of the cars in this collection are over 80 years old. Throughout the year Severn Valley Railway plays host to many special events including Santa and a child favorite Thomas the Tank Engine.
