The large town of Bangor is located in County Down in Northern Ireland. With a population of around 76,000 people the town of Bangor is one of the most populous towns in Northern Ireland and is the third most populous settlement in the Northern Ireland area. Bangor is situated on the southern side of the Belfast Lough making it a wonderful seaside location. The marina located here, Bangor Marina, is one of the largest marinas in all of Ireland. The town's rich history, which dates back to the Bronze Age, gives visitors much to enjoy while they stay in this wonderful Irish location.

Bangor is a seaside resort so the first thing people think of is the water. And who wouldn't want to go enjoy some fun in the sun and serf right? If you are interested in water sports or just a place to relax and enjoy the sun then you should wander to Balleyholme Beach. This beach, while not located in the heart of Bangor is nearby. The long beach stretches from Ballymacormick Point to Seacliff Road and is a great place to just take a stroll. You can enjoy water sports and even see a lot of native birds while you're here. Parents can relax while the kids play in the water or on the shores.

Of course, you can't come to enjoy the water of Bangor without a visit to the premier marina in Ireland. The Bangor Marina has a wide array of seaworthy crafts and has a spot for just about one of every model and size. Whether you are a sailor at heart or are just interested in seeing the sea you should check out this wonderful sight.

While you're enjoying the great outdoors then you should really wander the Coastal Path. This path takes you along the Bangor sea front to Helen's Bay, with Crawfordsburn Beach on the way. Enjoy the beauty of the sea as well as the many delightful shops and eateries on the way. At Crawfordsburn Beach you can stop and visit the Education center to learn about the areas wildlife. In Helen's Bay you can learn about the Lady Helen of Dufferin and Ava that the bay was named for.

If you've had enough of the outside, then head inside to the Bangor Abbey. This historic site was founded in 558 by Saint Comgall. Here you can see many interesting sites such as the old graveyard or the memorial stone dedicated to the Titanic ship's surgeon. Also while you're there be sure to go inside the actual abbey. Here you can see the magnificent mural painted by Kenneth Webb depicting the Ascending Christ giving the apostles his command. At the abbey you'll also see the oldest structure in Bangor, Malachy's Wall. If you are a history buff then this is the place to head.

Of course what would be a trip with the family if you didn't go to at least one fun park. The Pickie fun park is a popular tourist stop for visitors of all ages, especially those with families. Here young children can enjoy playgrounds while older kids can enjoy the go-carts or the swan boats on the lake.
