The market town Arundel is located in southern England in the South Downs of West Sussex. It is one of the many boroughs that the Municipal Reform Act of 1835 reformed. Arundel became a civil parish with a town council when it became part of the Arun district in 1974. The civil parish of Arundel is just over 3,000 acres large and, as of 2001, had only a population of 3408. The town is a significant bridging port for the River Arun. It was the home of the lowest road bridge until 1908 when the Littlehampton swing bridge was constructed. The river was originally named Tarrant but was later renamed after the town.

The Normans built the Arundel Caste to protect the town's vulnerable northern point that faces the valley through the South Downs. The town developed on the slope that is on the castles south side. The castle grounds is home to one of the most picturesque cricket fields in the country. The Sussex County Cricket Club host many of their games there each season. It is also the home of the Lavinia Duchess of Norfolk's XI match with the champion county that starts the new season. The touring country is hosted there in the summer.

The current town is set just to the north of A27, a road that barely misses running though the center of town. The Arun Valley Line connects with the Arundel railway station. There is also a foot path that is long-distance called Monarch's way the goes through the towns center and crosses the river. The town was given Fair Trade Town status in July of 2004 and those born there know the surrounding areas as Mullets because of the Mullet in the River Arun.

The Bishop of Arundel and Brighton has a seat at the Arundel Cathedral. One of the oldest Scout Groups in the world can be found in Arundel. The troop, 1st Arundel Scout Troop, was started in 1908 just weeks after Scouting was organized. The current headquarters is in Green Lane Close. It still has active Beaver, Cub and Scouts.
