The city of Worcester has traditionally been an area that has enjoyed a remarkable level of economic prosperity, progress and development and has always been a town that attracted a steady and dependable stream of fresh migrant labour as people gravitated towards greater economic stability and job opportunities. When the ancient Romans set foot on British soil for the very first time, they quickly realized the significant strategic value that the region could provide them and so they established a solid infrastructure for iron smelting (which played an integral role in the fashioning and development of weaponry) along with pottery production (a highly sought product for exporting.)

Worcester saw further expansion and development of its industrial base during the medieval times serving as an important base of operations for the production, distribution and retail of cloth and textiles and the city enjoyed a de facto monopoly upon the industry for several centuries thereafter. The town because so prosperous in fact that the Chancellor of the Exchequer decided to grant county corporate status as the town was evidently more than capable of supporting itself financially.

However, the fortunes of the town have not always been quite so generous or kind and there has been a number of instances when the town came under attack due to Mother Nature herself and humans as well. In the 17th century the town suffered a significant degree of damage as a result of a repeated rash of floods which caused the nearby river to swell meaning its banks broke.

During the Second World War, as a result of a sustained bombing campaign led by the German Air Force saw a mass scale evacuation the likes of which had never been encountered before within Britain in its entire history and was also chosen to the base of operations for the Government in the event that the Germans were ever successful in actually invading British soil.

Whilst a significant proportion of the city featured medieval architecture and design, these were demolished and modernized as a result of a mass campaign in the 60's and 70's lead by the Conservative government in a bid to bring the city into the new era.
