On the northeast coast of Scotland is the little town of Stonehaven. Known for being an Iron Age fishing village the town began expanding inland. The town dates back to the prehistoric times. It is still known for being a fishing village, mainly herring.

While you are visiting the town of Stonehaven be sure to take in the sites of the harbor. This area gives you a picturesque view of the entire bay area. The best way to get the full view, other than walking the harbor area, is to take it all in from one of the pubs or restaurants located on the edge. You can sit and eat a nice meal or drink your favorite ale while watching the sun set.

Another popular stop is the Stonehaven War Memorial. This noticeable monument on top of Black Hill provides you with a distinct land maker upon entering Stonehaven. As you look up you will see the welcome sight for those who are returning to Stonehaven.

While you are admiring the War Memorial you should wander up to Dunnottar Castle. These beautiful ruins are surrounded almost completely by the sea. As you wander the ruins you will get to see the seabirds and the views from the cliffs is absolutely spectacular.

The Stonehaven Golf Course is a great place for avid golfers to head. This challenging course is open year round and can provide the challenge all levels of players long for. While you are trying to make your perfect putt you won't be able to help but notice the wonderful cliff top views. There are other golf courses nearby Stonehaven if you can't get a tee time here you should be able to get on the course at one of these wonderfully entertaining courses.

Families will enjoy the use of the open air pool. This pool is known as the United Kingdom's only art deco heated olympic sized swimming pool. The pool is filled with filtrated sea water. It is only opened from the beginning of June to the first Sunday in September. This 4-star visitor attraction is not just fun for the entire family, its also a work of art in its own right.

Stonehaven is home to the Fireballs Festival. This yearly event starts at midnight and is a unique way to bring the New Year. It begins on Hogmanay each year and attract some 10,000 visitors each year.
