One cannot come to Stirling without seeing the Stirling Castle, one of the best preserved Castles in all of Scotland, and the historical heartbeat of the city. One can also visit, in a very short trip out from the city, the Wallace Monument, erected in honor of the Scottish Patriot William Wallace, and intended as a monument to freedom and rich Scottish history. Another excellent way to get a feel for the local culture is to visit the Smith Art Gallery and Museum, which contains much in the way of local art as well as artifacts from the areas past.
While visiting Scotland, especially an area as lovely as Stirling, remember to take time to walk the adjoining hills behind the city. There is a specific path located behind the University of Stirling that is highly recommended. Perhaps more fascinating is the fact that Scotland's lone, legitimate African Safari Park is located in Stirling. This provides a fascinating contrast to the natural beauty of Scotland, and offers a very family friendly activity for all to enjoy.
While Sterling offers a variety of food choices, from Chinese takeaway to steakhouse, don't leave without sampling a variety of local cuisine. The Lake of Menteith Hotel and Restaurant prides itself on using local produce in ways meant to honor the culture and surroundings. An excellent way to finish a breathtaking day in the gateway to the highlands.
