The seaside town of Skegness is considered one of the original holiday towns. Home to the first of the Butlins Holiday Resorts, which was built in 1936, this small town is still one of the more famous seaside resorts in the United Kingdom.
One of the main attractions in Skegness is, of course, the beach. What seaside resort's main attraction isn't the beach? The beaches in Skegness have won the Blue Flag award for beach cleanliness several years in a row. Even though you might not want to go for a dip in the North Sea, which can be extremely chilly, you will still want to go and enjoy the beauty of the sea and enjoy some of the sun. If you do decide to take a quick dip in the sea during a hot summer day you can rest assured that the beach waters at Skegness come with a Marine Conservation Society (MCS) recommended grade, which means their waters maintain the highest in water quality standards.
But the beach isn't the only place you can find lots of fun. For those with children you might want to hit Fantasy Island. This indoor theamed resort has rollercoaster, pyramids, IMAX rides, water rides, an aquarium and shops. It's free to get in but you do have to pay for the rides. It's still a great place to take the kids for a day.
You can also check out the Church Farm Museum. Located on the outskirts of Skegness this nineteenth century farm gives visitors a glimpse into the nineteenth century lifestyle. You can visit the shops, view the crafts and see the sheep.
If you are interested in animals check out the Natureland Seal Sanctuary. At this facility you and your family can see not only seals but snakes, crocodiles and other interesting creatures. Opened in 1965 as a place for abandoned baby seals they have continued their work of conservation, education and entertainment throughout for over forty years. If you go, be sure to stay for feeding time for the seals and penguins, it is one of their greatest entrainment attractions.
Like the beach you almost can't go to Skegness without hitting the Skegness Pier. There are many activities to enjoy at the pier. You can play video games, laser quest, bowling, play Arabian derby (camel racing), and many other games. There is even a fast food bar, ice cream shop, and coffee bar. The Pier is one of the most popular stops in Skegness.
When you visit Skegness you will have sun, surf and lots of activities to keep you busy.
