Being on the coast the first place that most people hit is the beaches. The sandy beach and clear water is an attractive spot for many families. The Dunnose Point shelters the bay from any prevailing winds which makes the bay even more attractive. The cliffs of St Boniface Downs and Luccombe are an attractive background to enjoy while you are enjoying the surf and sun.
After you have spent the day sunning yourself on the sand you might want to take a trip out into the bay. The Shanklin Sailing Club, a mainstay since 1931, can give you just that. You can take around a 30 Dart/Sprint 115s, and Enterprise, Laser's, and Pico's it's your choice. A Thursday evening and Sunday morning is when the group likes to race but any other time of the week you can take a boat out on the bay.
While enjoying the great outdoors, be sure to enjoy a game of bowling. The Shanklin Bowling Club welcomes visitors to enjoy a game of lawn bowling. They have the finest greens on the island. The club is open from 10:15 to 12:30 and then again from 2:15 to dusk during May through September. Refreshments are available on site too for those who need something to quench their thirst after a long but fun afternoon.
Another popular visitor spot is The Shanklin Chine Heritage Center. The view of the main water fall from the top of the forty-five foot waterfall is absolutely spectacular. The view from the second waterfall, which is twenty-nine feet tall, is just as spectacular. The Chine Heritage Center is also home to a beautiful garden. This garden is home to one hundred + fifty varieties of wild plants with more than fifty species of moss as well. Visitors to this site can enjoy the beauty and variety of this historic site.
The Old Village is a popular destination, located on the south side of town it is a beautiful area full of quaint shops, old fashioned tea rooms, and thatched cottages. There are several pubs for adults to enjoy one evening. There are also many places for you to get a good fresh seafood meal.
Visitors that enjoy shopping, Shanklin is home to many shops. The two main streets of Shanklin are home to many shops that you can get a variety of unique gifts or souvenirs. You can definitely shop all day or afternoon to your heart's content. Breezing in and out of the various shops can make for a nice break from the bustle of the beach.
