The seaside resort of Newquay was settled originally in the Bronze Age. During the Medieval period Newquay became a small fishing village and the harbor became a natural protection from bad weather. Today the town is a bustling tourist destination.
The thing that many people visit first is the beaches. With ten beaches for visitors to enjoy, there is never a shortage of sand. Families with small children might want to check out Harbour Beach. This beach is the smallest of the ten beaches and is located within the harbor walls. It is known for its calm water and sheltered beach, perfect for younger children. Unlike some of the other beaches, however, there is no lifeguard on duty here.
If you want a beach with plenty of activities then you need to check out the Lusty Glaze Beach. Here you can learn how to surf, go coasteering, use the zip wire that connects two of the high cliffs over the Lusty Glaze. Kids ages 8 to 14 can join the junior Baywatch and get a two hour course on beach safety from fully trained lifeguards. This beach has life guards on duty as well as lifeguard courses that visitors can take to learn more about lifeguard techniques.
For those that are interested in total relaxation can take a break you need to check out the local spa. You can take an hour, a day or a whole weekend. Here you can enjoy the holistic health experiences of the spa. This little bit of luxury can redefine your whole vacation.
Families can find many activities to enjoy with the kids, that don't necessarily involve spending all day in the surf and sun. A popular stop is the Blue Reef Aquarium. Visitors can see over forty displays of marine life. There are local species and more exotic fair from the tropics. The underwater tunnel will give visitors a unique view of aquatic life.
St Eval Kart Racing Circuit is another place that families can spend their day. The three different tracks to choose from and even smaller children can drive here in different small carts for them to race in. Adult size karts, for those big enough and responsible enough, can go up to 70 miles per hour. The longer of the tracks, 1200m, was designed with the assistance of some to the top racing drivers.
Animal lovers can enjoy the Newquay Zoo. The zoo is home to 130 different species. You can enjoy the sub-tropical gardens, rain forests, and oriental gardens as well. During your visit you can see a lemur feeding, raccoon talks, and other animal encounters during your visit. It can make for a fun day with the animals.
