Being a huge resort means there is a lot for families to do and enjoy. First thing most people think of when they hear seaside resort is the beach. Llandudno is no different. Llandudno bay stretches nearly two miles between the Great Orme and Little Orme. With wide sandy beaches that lead to the sea you can enjoy a nice sun bathing experience while the kids splash in the water or build sand castles. During the summer months the north shore is also home to donkey rides that kids of all ages will have fun with.
The pier is another popular stop. Built in 1878 this 1,234 foot long bridge gives you plenty of attractions. From amusement arcades, fairground rides, a cafe and a bar means there is lots of fun to be had. There are also a wide variety of shops and kiosks to visit. If you walk to the end of the pier and look back you can see magnificent views of the town and on a clear day you can even see the mountains of Snowdonia in the background.
The sea isn't the only thing for families to enjoy during their stay. The Happy Valley is a picturesque area that you can enjoy strolling through. Once a copper mining site and stone quarry, the valley was turned over to the city of Llandudno in celebration of the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. These beautifully landscaped gardens are the starting point for the aerial cabin car that travels up the summit to the Great Orme. If you choose to go a little further up in the valley you will find artificial ski slope and can ski or snowboard to your heart's content.
The Great Orme is another popular destination. This limestone headland rises nearly a mile above Llandudno. Visitors can take a tram or aerial cable car to the top and visit this site of special scientific interest. There are numerous paths to walk and you might even get to see a Kashmir goat, which are a long established feral heard that lives on the cliff side. There are also many sheep and other farm type animals that graze here, since a lot of the cliff side is still used as farmland. If you go during the summer months you will get to see beautiful flowers such as the thrift, sea Campion and bloody cranesbills. It is truly a breathtaking site.
If you are interested in beautiful views check out the Marin drive that goes around the perimeter of the Great Orme. This four mile drive skirts the Great Orme and provides you with spectacular views of not only the Great Orme itself but the sea as well. You can walk it, bike it, or even drive it. Many take a vintage motor coach tour that is offered throughout the year.
