 | Whitewebbs is within easy walking distance of Chalfont St. Peter village and is a Tudor style house with just two rooms for guests.
The house has lattice windows, beamed rooms and is furnished with some comfortable country antiques. The pine dining room, where breakfast is served looks onto the large back garden which borders fields. Guests often sit in the garden under the trees with a tray of tea on their arrival in summer. |
There are two bedrooms for guests both furnished in a cottagey style. One has a double bed, en-suite shower room, easy chairs, television and looks out over the back garden and over fields; especially pretty when the fruit trees are in blossom. The other room has twin beds, easy chairs, en-suite bathroom, television and the view over the large front garden with old oak, beech and pine trees.

Two other bedrooms were turned into a studio in 1984 for John and Maureen Marsh to work on designs for all kinds of stationery from local cards to business stationery. Maureen's watercolours are all around the house and guests are welcome to browse and to buy if they wish. Much of the work has a local flavour and makes a worthwhile souvenir of your visit to the area.

Buckinghamshire is famous for its Chiltern Hills and there is plenty of advice on footpaths, local maps to borrow and local knowledge to be shared with your hosts. |

Interesting Visits Within about 5 miles of Whitewebbs
Chalfont St. Giles village is very pretty and has a lovely green and a pond. It is about two miles away and makes a delightful walk through the Misbourne Valley. Refreshments are available in the village. The 16th century cottage, where poet Milton lived to escape the plague of London in 1665 is now a fascinating museum on the edge of the village.
The Chiltern Open Air Museum of historic buildings illustrates Chiltern life from Iron Age to the Victoria era. These reconstructed buildings from the Chiltern area occupy several acres of beautiful hillside offering grand views of woodland and open countryside.
Old Amersham is a fine example of an ancient Buckinghamshire town and an interesting guided tour can be made learning of the straw plaiting and lace making that was a cottage industry. The Amersham museum is housed in a medieval hall house and is well worth a visit before you are tempted by a cream tea in one of the little tea shops.
Beaconsfield Old Town has grand, wide, tree lined main streets with a mixture of fine architecture which will coax your camera or sketch book out of your pocket. The rectory is 15th century and the parish church 19th century. The good Tuesday Market takes place amongst the trees in front of the church.
Further afield about 9 miles away rises Windsor with its imposing castle frequently used by the Royal family. There is so much of historical interest to see that two or more day long visits might just do this historic town justice! The theatre Royal presents excellent plays and there are numerous eating places nearby.
The town lies on the River Thames and it is lovely to stroll over the bridge to Eton after dinner or a theatre visit. |
