Wheyrigg Hall is a family run hotel in rural north Cumbria. The proprietors, Joseph and Helen Benson, pride themselves in offering facilities which provide a warm and friendly welcome and a high standard of comfort in keeping with the hotel's farming background.

The facilities at Wheyrigg include:

A lounge bar, a dining area (seating 30) and a cosy restaurant (seating 20). Quality meals at reasonable prices are served all day with the emphasis on traditional home cooking using fresh, local produce. A range of menus covering bar meals, lunches, dinners and buffets is available and vegetarians are catered for.

The hotel is located on the B5302 between Wigton and Silloth approximately one and a half miles before Abbeytown and is only half an hour drive from the M6 motorway. There is ample car parking and easy access for the disabled with the majority of the facilities being located on the ground floor.

The hotel has two function rooms which can accommodate conferences, wedding receptions and other celebrations. The larger room can seat up to 120 diners or 240 buffet style. The small room, The Mystal Suite, offers a private, self-contained room for 40 seated or 80 on an informal basis.

Table d'hote menus are available for weddings, dinners and parties. As an alternative a range of buffets can be provided for events such as business conferences and parties. Entertainment can be arranged on request.

There are 12 comfortable single, twin and double bedded rooms and a family room with two bedrooms. All the rooms are bright and airy and have en suite facilities. Cots are available on request.

A wide range of attractions are within easy reach including:

  • The Border City of Carlisle (15 miles) offering excellent shopping, a cathedral, castle and museum.
  • The splendour of the Lake District National Park (20 miles) with its world renowned scenery, walking and climbing.
  • The Solway Coast (7 miles) which offers less strenuous exercise on miles of award winning sandy beaches in an area catergorised as being of outstanding natural beauty.
  • Hadrians Wall, Gretna Green and the Scottish Borders.
  • The Victorian town of Silloth (7 miles) with its championship links golf course and Solway Coast Discovery Centre.
  • Many of Melvin Bragg's books are set in Wigton (4 miles), the local market town, which is famous for its annual horse fairs.
