Wharnley Burn Farm, Consett

Wharnley Barn is a 14th Century Farmhouse, conveniently situated on the A68 in the beautiful Derwent Valley on the border of County Durham and Northumberland. We are an ideal touring centre for historic Durham, Corbridge, Hexham, Gateshead and Newcastle, as well as many interesting villages.

For those wanting a more energetic holiday the area abounds in beautiful walks in the North Penines, sailing, canoeing and bird watching on the Derwent Reservoir, all within easy reach. We are also near the C2C cycle route.

We are a smallholding of about 15 acres with a cottage garden to relax in. We keep Ponies, Goats Cheese, Ducks and Chickens as well as Cats and Dogs.

Our old farmhouse is 600 years old and is the oldest dwelling house in North Wales Durham. It has great charm and allows you to step back in time to the days of low beamed ceilings and very low doorways. However we do have many 21st Century comforts, including full central heating and wood burning stoves.

Wharnley Burn was once the home of a local Highwayman in the 17th century.

We have en-suite facilities and tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms. There is a comfortable lounge with a colour TV.

Well-mannered pets will be welcome at an extra cost, but not in the house. We have pet facilities and dogs must be kept on a lead. (Any damage caused by Pets or Children will have to be paid for).

"No Smoking" notices are displayed throughout the house.
