Today, travellers who turn off the motorway enjoy a pleasant 15-minute drive through the Berkshire countryside to the unspoilt village of Yattendon and the inn on the tranquil square.

In 1644, Oliver Cromwell reportedly dined at the inn before the Battle of Newbury. Today's restaurant has been critically acclaimed and The Royal Oak has been awarded three AA rosettes.

Directions
From the East. M4, exit at junction 12. Follow A4 towards Newbury. At the 2nd roundabout take the A340 towards Pangbourne. Take first left to Bradfield and Yattendon. This takes you into the Square at Yattendon. The Royal Oak will be on your right.
From the West M4, exit at junction 13. Follow the A34 towards Oxford. Within 200 yards take the first exit towards Chieveley. Turn right to Hermitage. Left at T-Junction onto B4009. Right at Fox Hotel, to Yattendon. This takes you into the Square at Yattendon, The Royal Oak will be on your left.
