Situated in the glorious rolling hills of Mid Devon, this former coaching Inn, ciderhouse, dates back to the 1700s built of stone and cob with beamed ceilings and open log fires, it still has that old world feel about it today, especially when the original Lorna Doone stage coach arrives with passengers, who still stop off to sample some of the outstanding cuisine, genuine wam hospitality, and all without the aid of any fruit machines, pool table or noisy juke box.

The accommodation comprises of seven en-suite bedrooms, (toilet, handbasin and shower), all of which, although not large, are extremely clean and comfortable, with direct dial telephone, colour television, tea and coffee making facilities and full central heating. The Inn boasts wonderful views across to both Exmoor and Dartmoor and for walkers is only a short distance away from the famous Two Moors Way. Also within a 10 minutes drive is the beautiful Tarka trail, winding its way through the Eggesford forest.

First time diners soon recognise the reason for the restaurants popularity and why it is recommended by Egon Ronay, Johansens, Minotels, Wayfarer Inns and Commended by the English and West Country Tourist Board. One inspector report the inn as "a real gem". On offer are blazing log fires in the winter, three dining rooms, (two non smoking) and two bar areas, one with lounge seating.
