We at The La Fleur de Lys offer a warm welcome friendly service and quiet informality in our small quality hotel. It is a former Girls Boarding House and dates from 1877. The hotel is in the heart of Shaftesbury, a thriving market town with an extensive history.

The hotel has been tastefully furnished and modernised throughout to include the essentials for a comfortable stay for the business or holiday guest.

The town originates in Saxon times and due to its hilltop position, has magnificent views over the Blackmore Vale. Shaftesbury also has many notable features, such as the Abbey Ruins and particularly Gold Hill (featured in the Hovis advertisement). Shaftesbury is also the centre of Thomas Hardy's Wessex; known as Shaston, it features in books such as Jude the Obscure, to which a whole chapter is dedicated.

Within easy reach of the town there are many places of interest; ancient historical sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury; the beautiful cathedrals of Salisbury and Wells; the grounds and houses of Stourhead and Longleat.
