Restaurant

Having been a chef for twenty years and Magda coming from a family of wine producers we are delighted to have our own restaurant...

We have a daily menu so that we so that we can follow the changing seasonal produce. Produce that should really be eaten in its prime, ripe, fresh and healthy. We like to use produce from the farms and fields around Gloucester because we are lucky enough to have exceptional growers on our doorstep.

Butts Farm (meat) animals are raised with attention to welfare, flavour and healthfulness. Duchy Home Farm, Over Farm and Evesham Market Gardening provide top quality vegetables from some of the best fertile farm land around. Locally sourced poultry and free range eggs, award winning cheeses come from South Cerney and Birdwood Farm. Milk and dairy products from Cotteswold Dairy and Netherend Farms, breads from Hobbs House Bakery, flours from Shippton Mill and many other suppliers too numerous to mention.

Other products are sourced because they are essential to a modern restaurant kitchen but we still try to buy healthy, flavoursome items wherever they come from.

Our lunch menu is Bistro style allowing you to choose a three course lunch or snack, the evening menu is more formal, the emphasis being on enjoying the evening in comfort and style...

The food is a mix of British and European with occasional Asian and Czech (Schnitzel, goulash, strudel...). We try to source good products and use good technique to make enjoyable meals at a reasonable price.

We serve a Sunday roast lunch which is a simple and traditional choice of roast meats, vegetarian and fish dishes. Our wine list has been composed using the expertise of Corney and Barrow, the long established British vintners, and includes many reasonably priced wines that are exclusive to them. For private functions and special occasions with due notice we can source many special wines if requested and you can use the facilities of our luxurious private dining room.We also serve a selection of home-made cordials, iced teas and coffees and limited beers (Czech Budwar, Staropramen, Pilsner Urquell and English ale Cats Whiskers) and spirits.

We hope that you enjoy your stay visiting our restaurant. Both Magda in the restaurant and myself in the kitchen look forward to meeting and serving you.

Painswick

Painswick is an historic wool town nestled quietly in the Cotswold Hills, surrounded by some of the most delightful countryside. "Sheer poetry", said His Majesty King Charles...

Built of mellow Cotswold stone from local quarry, the village's many beautiful buildings can be seen as you wander around its quaint and narrow streets. The churchyard is well known for its 99 Yew trees (legend has it the 100th will not grow) and its unusual table top tombs.

The countryside around Painswick has large areas of National Trust Woodlands (140 designated footpaths crisscross the whole area). Undulating areas of pasture land fall to the Wick stream which supplied the woollen mills.

Painswick Beacon has magnificent views across the Severn Valley and on a clear day the Welsh Mountains can be seen. There is also an 18 hole golf course, riding stables, tennis court and bowling green close by.

The Slad valley, made famous by Laurie Lee in his book "Cider with Rosie" is well noted for it's wild flowers. The celebrated Rococo Gardens at Painswick House are open to the public throughout the year. In early spring the carpets of snowdrops are truly breathtaking.

The famous Cotswold Way path, which runs from Bath to Chipping Campden, goes through the village and marks the mid point.

Painswick is undoubtedly a village for all seasons, whatever the weather. Its central location is ideal for day trips. Bath 25 miles, Bristol 23 miles, London 1 hr. 30 mins and you can visit all the well known Cotswold villages and towns (regency Cheltenham and Bath, Gloucester, Stratford-upon-Avon).
