| RELAXATION BREAKS BED & BREAKFAST Splatthayes is a large, thatched cob house in the quiet and picturesque village of Buckerell. The proprietor, Douglas, has lived here for over eight years, and runs the house to offer maximum relaxation and peace. Splatthayes is a Grade II listed building built in the 16th Century and is full of character. Set in three and a half acres, the house has log fires, flagstone floors and a wealth of original beams. Locally, there are many miles of footpaths offering splendid walking for the country lover, and quiet rural lanes for the cycling enthusiast. The beautiful South Devon coast is only a short drive away. Splatthayes is the perfect house for a Relaxation Break, with its warm and informal atmosphere, allowing you to unwind in a friendly environment. The two-day Relaxation Breaks consists of two nights' bed and breakfast and two four course evening meals. Bookings can be flexible and tailored to your required combination of accommodation and meals. | Various workshops have been run at Splatthayes in previous years, and the facility is being expanded to cover different subjects. One day workshops have already been run in: Introduction to Aromatherapay Oils Introduction to Massage Introduction to Chinese Meridians Introduction to Shiatsu On site Massage (practitioner Level Training) Reiki Voice Workshop The new facility will allow us to run a greater variety of courses, such as Art Appreciation or Creative Writing. If you are interested in learning more, or would like to be placed on the mailing list for details of forthcoming events or even have an idea for a course you would like to run, please get in touch. The workshops are friendly and relaxed and can be arranged to suit your interests. |
Douglas is a talented cook, and with the help of his Aga he will cater for all tastes. If you have a favourite dish from a previous visit, just ask Douglas to recreate it.
 Dinner is a candlelit four course meal served at 7.30 pm. If a member of your group has a special diet, Douglas rises to the challenge and often makes other diners wish they were on that diet too! Just give details at the time of booking. | From M5 take Junction 28 towards Honiton - A373. Past Colliton the road climbs and bends. When it starts to descend you see Hembury Fort Residential Home on the right followed by a staggered junction sign.Turn right at this junction signposted Buckerell. When reaching village there is a telephone box on your left and Splatthayes drive to our car park is just past this on left. Please note that there is a Splatthayes Cottage next door to Splatthayes. If coming from the A30, Buckerell can be reached from the Sidmouth or Fenny Bridges turnoffs. There is a new bridge over the A30 at Weston so take the Sidmouth exit from the A30, go past the Jet garage and turn right. Take next left onto Heathpark Industrial Estate, then right and right again at end, which road carries you over the A30 to Weston. A pub called The Otter is on your right.Take next turning left for 1.5 miles to village. When reaching village turn right at sign for Hembury Fort and Splatthayes is the fifth house on the right. From Fenny Bridges, turn right after second bridge and follow lane to Buckerell. On reaching village take the turning on your left signposted to Hembury Fort and we are the fifth house on the right. Follow driveway down to car park. |
| Local Attractions Honiton is an historic town famous for lace making and is renowned as the main centre for antiques in the South West. There is a market on Tuesday and Saturdays and a swimming pool and sports centre open to visitors. There are golf clubs nearby at Honiton, Woodbury Common and Sidmouth. From the Blackdown Hills in the north to the coastline in the south, much of the countryside is designated as of outstanding natural beauty.Buckerell is within easy reach of both Dartmoor and Exmoor, and is approximately 15 miles from the city of Exeter, the ancient capital of the South West. Honiton and Feniton stations have trains direct to London/Waterloo or Exeter and we are happy to collect guests from Honiton. Access to the M5 is about 8 miles away at Cullompton (Junction 28) and the A303/A30 and A35 pass around Honiton. Coach services link with most major towns from Exeter coach station. The coast is easily reached at Sidmouth (12 miles), Branscombe (11 miles), Beer (12 miles), Budleigh Salterton (17) or Lyme Regis (17 miles). All of these resorts are well worth a visit and have many different attractions to offer.Visits can also be made to Bicton Park, Killerton House (NT), the Norman Lockyer Observatory or the Seaton Tramway which runs from Seaton to Colyton. |
