We would like to welcome you to the Smallwood House Hotel, where we will do our best to help you to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Ideally located… Smallwood House Hotel is situated in the centre of Ambleside, close to all amenities. A few minutes walk in any direction will take you out of this charming Lakeland town and into the beautiful surrounding countryside. The house was built around 1880 using Westmorland Slate quarried from local mines. Although the building is over 100 years old the interior has been updated to offer accommodation which is pleasant and tasteful and includes en-suite bedrooms with tea/coffee making facilities and televisions. We do have a residential licence, therefore you may enjoy a drink in our comfortable lounge before going out in the evening or eating in our own dining room where all the meals are freshly prepared.

It is difficult to convey in a brochure the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service you will receive during your stay . You will forget the pressures of everyday life amid the peace and serenity, which surrounds us here. There are no hard and fast rules here, all we ask is that you enjoy yourself. "Laughter is the best medicine" Ambleside enjoys a premier position within the Lake District National Park, being an excellent base from which to visit all corners, and parts in between, of this spectacular area. There are quiet secluded corners, busy market towns, lakes, mountains, and valleys, historic houses and gardens the visitor to the Lakes must see. Discover the beauty of the English Lakeland in the winter months… enjoy the wonderful colours of the falling Autumn leaves…Snowcapped craggy mountain peaks set against crisp blue December skies… rivers and waterfalls at their dramatic best in full flood. Fishing permits for local waters - permits for WAOAA, entitling users of many private waters. Smallwood House offers excellent discounts from early November through to late March.
