For most people The Sibton White Horse is the perfect 'English Country Inn', steeped in tradition, full of fascinating features, good drink and food and a great place to stay.
Hidden away, on the edge of the pretty Suffolk village of Sibton, the 16th century Tudor Inn stands amongst acres of natural beauty. Not surprisingly The White Horse and many of its out buildings are grade II listed, preserving their many years of heritage.
Whether business or pleasure the White Horse is ideally positioned, just off the A1120 tourist route, 10 minutes from the A12. Southwold, Minsmere and Snape Maltings are all 20 minutes away, with many other places of interest nearby. Ipswich town centre is a thirty five minutes drive, whilst Norwich is forty five minutes.
New owners Neil and Gill Mason acquired the White Horse in August 05 and have since provided the care and attention that the White Horse richly deserves. Many changes have been made and now the Sibton White enjoys a growing reputation as the perfect English Inn to drink, eat or stay. |
Bar and Drink
The bar is probably the most fascinating room at the Inn and never fails to amaze first time visitors. A warm, cosy and welcoming atmosphere is always evident and provides the perfect place to meet up with friends prior to dining or simply to relax and enjoy a drink.
The old oak servery with its gleaming brass beer engines immediately stands out, whilst opposite the large inglenook fireplace makes its big presence felt, particularly in the colder months with its roaring fire. A viewing panel shows off the working cellar and its Roman floor. Old settles and pews create further interest, whilst there is a splendid collection ofhorse brass too.
A free house with a landlord passionate about real ale, means there is always plenty on tap. Local Adnams Bitter and Broadside are always available along with weekly changing guest ales. Wines do not miss out either, an enviable wine list provides for most tastes, with a choice of more than thirty wines from nine different countries. The bar also boasts a very good range of Malts and Liqueurs. |
Dining Experience
A fine reputation for providing the ideal dining experience is exactly what new owners Neil and Gill were looking for. Whether it is lunch in the bar, dinner in the elegant dining room or alfresco dining during the summer months, eating at The White Horse is something worth waiting for.
Head Chef is Nick Gardener, well known in the area for his time spent working in some of the most highly regarded restaurants.
Fresh local produce is sourced whenever possible and all dishes are prepared freshly to order. Two separate menus provide for lunch and evening dinner, both revolving weekly. The chef's 'specials board' comes out at the weekends, whilst The White Horse Sunday lunch proves to be very popular.
Whilst you can enjoy a meal in the bar, the gallery and dining room are the dedicated no smoking eating areas. The dining room offers real traditional comforts with full linen service, whilst the gallery is attached to the bar and has a more rustic presence. Bookings are advisable, particularly at busy times.
The dining room is also available for that special occasion, private dinner parties for up to 20 persons can be arranged, and if required the menu can be designed to suit. For larger parties and during the summer months, the spacious gardens are perfect for that marquee.
