 | The Sailmaker's Loft is a small family run Bed & Breakfast situated in the heart of the Old Town. The house was originally a ware-house that was converted by the owner's great grandmother to a dwelling house in 1932. Mrs Glover used to house Naval Officers until the second world war broke out and then she was ordered not to. After the conflict, her family who had been bombed out lived there until the last relative sold the property to the current owner and he converted it back into a Bed & Breakfast. |
Accommodations
The Sailmaker's Loft has a variety of rooms including a designated single. All our ensuite rooms have seaviews over the Solent and Portsmouth Harbour. Each room has colour Television, hair dryer, individually controlled central heating and hospitality tray. In January 2007, we were totally refurbished ready to greet our summer visitors.
On this page we will provide as much information as possible about each type of accommodation we offer. We strive to have each one of our rooms be uniquely decorated and spotlessly clean. Our staff will take great care of you while you stay with us, whether on vacation with your family or traveling on business.
The Sailmaker's Loft is situated in the heart of the old town with cobbled streets, waterside bars and restaurants. The town Camber is a working quay with its marine workshops and fishing industry. Just take a short stroll along the millennium trail, inlaid into the pavement and it will lead you to most the of the major attractions:- The Dockyard Heritage centre with H.M.S. Victory, The Mary Rose and H.M.S. Warrior and the Royal Naval Museum. Nearby is also Southsea Castle where King Henry VIII watched his flagship The Mary Rose sink in 1545, The Sea Life Centre and the D Day museum. The world famous Gunwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower offers good shopping and a whole array of speciality restaurants to suit every taste and pocket. We are about a mile (1.6 kms) from the town station and the Hard interchange where you can take a train, coach ferry to Gosport and even a trip round the harbour or a water taxi that will bring you back to the Sailmaker's. Spice Island ,where we are situated is full of history, the place where Nelson's navy had their playground. A very rough play ground too I add but that was the nature of the times. Although it has been sanitised a lot in the last twenty years it has lost none of its charm and the panoramic views of the harbour and solent are like an ever changing movie set. |
