Rookery Cottage, Leyburn, Front of Cottage

The cottage is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales and offers a perfect place for a tranquil holiday and ideal base for walking and exploring the local area. The cottage is situated in one of the prettiest and most peaceful villages in the Wensleydale National Park. Rookery Cottage, parts dating back to the early 16th Century, has been tastefully converted from four Almshouses in the early 1980's.

The cottage offers every modern comfort combined with old world charm, original oak beams, central heating as well as log fires, an oak paneled dining-room and well apportioned beamed bedrooms. Guests are assured of the sort of personal attention that we hope will make their visit a pleasant one.

Rookery Cottage, Leyburn, Conservatory

At the back of the cottage is a delightful garden, sheltered from the wind and rain in winter and a warm sun trap in the summer.

The conservatory is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the garden from the warmth of the house.

East Witton is situated close to Middleham, famous for its horse racing stables and splendid Norman Castle, which was the seat of Richard III. Jervaulx Abbey, the picturesque remains of a Cistercian Monastery, is only a short half hours walk from the cottage. The Lake District, Harrogate, York and the Yorkshire coastal resorts are within easy reach by car.

East Witton

Located towards the bottom end of Wensleydale, East Witton is about 15 minutes by car from Masham, (the locals pronounce it Masam) home of the well known Theakston's Brewery. You can try a pint of Theakston's Best Bitter, amoungst other real ales, at the Blue Lion pub which is opposite Rookery Cottage.. The village itself has not changed that much since those days.

The pub has two dining-rooms as well as a bar area and tap room and is a great place to recover after a hard day's walking. There is a beer garden and a large car park at the rear.
