Ringmore House

Ringmore House has been standing near the waters of the River Teign estuary since 1770, and is believed to date from 1680. The house is Grade II listed, and the current owners, Robert and Helen Scull have restored the house and recovered many original features, fireplaces in the bedrooms that have been unseen for over 50 years, internal shutters on the windows, fire cupboards and alcoves. The bedrooms and bathrooms are now beautifully decorated and furnished, with River estuary views from both the double rooms.

Ringmore House

Ringmore is an easy walk upriver from Shaldon, a beautiful valley with many thatched properties along tiny winding lanes, many dating from the 15th century, exploring is a delight, and a visit to the tiny church of St Nicholas is rewarding, with its pre-Saxon font. A church has stood on this site since the 7th century.

The livelihood of Shaldon is based around the estuary, holiday makers, fishing, boating and cottage industries, whilst the town of Teignmouth on the opposite shore is still busy and thriving small port. The foot ferry which operates from the river beach over to Teignmouth has been in existence since the 13th century, and the present ferry was modernised in 1909 by being motorised!

Shaldon boasts many interests, there are Botanical gardens at the top of the village, the coastal path winds up over the cliffs towards Torquay. The Shaldon Wildlife Park cares for various small creatures, and an 18 hole approach golf course may be found on the cliffs. In addition to the estuary beaches, a smugglers tunnel leads to Ness Cove, a sheltered sandy beach.

During the season, local fishermen shoot their seine nets to catch Salmon on the beach. Boat auctions are held twice a year on the beach, bringing in visitors from all over the West Country, and the annual water carnival and Regatta provide entertainment during the summer months.

Ringmore house has two double bedrooms and a twin bedded room, all bathrooms are private, and big fluffy robes are provided for each guest. Helen brings a tray of tea to your bedroom in the morning prior to breakfast.

Breakfast at Ringmore House is Aga cooked, an array of home made bread and jams awaits you each morning, in addition to fruit compotes, Croissants and cereals. Guests may also choose from English Breakfast, Kippers, Smoked Haddock, Kedgeree, Scotch pancakes to name a few.

The eggs are from our own hens in the garden, and where possible all our food is West Country produced and organic. Breakfast is served in the main house conservatory overlooking the gardens.

Dinner is available on some nights and guests enjoy candlelit home made food with the best ingredients. Home made cakes and cream tea are always ready at tea time and can be served up to six pm.
